Please join Idhavelli Hof for our September Blot to Hela and Odin for the change in the seasons, led by Mary Pulley.

Winter is coming, and while that certainly brings with it a lot of Game of Thrones jokes, it also brings the turning of Jera, from Summer to Winter. The time of Freyr and Freyja is cooling down, and while the North Carolina growing season lasts a long time, it is drawing to a close, and it is time to honor the gods of winter, Hela and Odin.

The blot will be taking place at Umstead National Park, at the Harrison Road entrance in Cary, where we will be meeting at the first shelter on the left past the bathrooms on the left side of the parking lot, on Sunday, September 30, at 3:00 pm. There will be a potluck afterwards, weather permitting, so we invite everyone to bring something to throw on the grill and a side to share.

Pumpkin seeds will be available as an offering that we share with the gods. However, you are welcome to bring your own offerings as well. Suggested offerings include seasonal produce or honey.

Join Iðavelli Hof on Sunday, October 28th for our Winternights celebration. This event will be led by Ana, and will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Hillsborough (located at 1710 Old North Carolina Highway 10, Hillsborough, NC). We will gather at 3:00 pm, with the ritual to begin at 3:30 pm.

Named by Tacitus as one of the holiest times for the Germanic peoples, Winternights is when we celebrate the turning of the seasons from the light time of year to the dark time. We change our focus from the external activities of summer such as travel and community events to look inward to ourselves and our families.

This seasonal observance will be celebrated in two parts, first a reflection and thanksgiving for the light season, followed by introspection and intentions for the coming winter.

This ritual will have a different format than many of our past blóts. In particular, there will not be an open round for hailing, or individual offerings.

Following the ritual, we will have a potluck. If you wish to join us, please sign up to bring a dish on our sign-up sheet, here:
